Welcome to Watch My Teen Drive, Inc!
Welcome to Watch My Teen Drive! Our mission is to help young drivers become safer, more responsible drivers.
While we recognize that there are always times when each of us must go it alone, we're also aware that in circumstances where team-play is possible, it should be preferred. To that end, we wish to form a team consisting of Mom and Dad as coaches, the general public as referee, and Watch My Teen Drive, Inc. as the general manager, and your child as the player.
And while we agree with Hillary Clinton that it does take a village, we prefer our villagers to help each other out because it's the right thing to do, not because someone, somewhere, told us that we must. To that end, if you decide to join, your information will be kept private, and we promise to never sell our membership list to anyone.
How It Works
When you join, we'll send you a high-visibility, reflective decal that carries the toll-free number and our logo on it. If someone sees your child driving discourteously, he calls the toll-free number and reports the license plate, approximate time, location, and the nature of the discourtesy. We'll then send you an e-mail and an SMS text message with the particulars of the phone call.
What if my child tries to take the decal off?
That's between you and your child. However, we at Watch My Teen Drive, Inc. would point out that even if your child is paying his or her own car note, and even if they pay their portion of the insurance bill out of their own pocket, minors do not have a legal right to contract. That means that it is your name and legal responsibility on the line as far as your insurance company is concerned, and as far as state law is concerned. We believe in the freedom of choice - your child gets to decide if he or she wants to drive or not. If he wants to, he drives by Mom and Dad's rules.
What if my child's friends call in to try to get them in trouble?
We've got that covered, too. While the calls to our service are anonymous, we do keep a log of phone numbers that call in the reports, and we save the text of every call we get. If we get repeat calls from the same number, and especially if those calls are vulgar or profane, we will cooperate with the police should it come to a legal issue of harassment.
Is your service GPS capable?
Presently, it is not. While we recognize the value of using GPS to aid the team in its mission, we're also acutely aware that GPS systems that do this sort of thing are very expensive. The GPS programs that we've looked at typically involve about a $350-$400 set-up fee, with a monthly recurring bill of around $100. We're offering a reliable service that won't break the bank.
